Alan Hughes chairman of Warwick Juniors Football Club came to lunch this week. He talked enthusiastically about the youngsters of all ages from under 8’s to 18’s who just love to play football, and come together to have fun, and make friends.
The club was originally formed as Woodloes Junior Football club in 2001. Over the last 20 years the club has grown and now has over 300 players from across Warwick and Warwickshire. The club is run entirely by volunteers who are passionate about providing opportunities for boys and girls of all ages.
There are 20 teams competing in local leagues supported by 40 voluntary coaches, and other supporters who fundraise for the kit, equipment and pitch fees. The teams play at Aylesford school, Warwickshire CC Sports ground, Warwick Sports Club, and Myton School and the club welcomes sponsorship from local businesses so the teams can turn out in sporting kit. Coaches have a variety of qualifications from the Football Association and the club supports them in progressing with their careers.
Alan showed a short video of the various teams in action, and you can find out more on their website https://www.warwickjuniorsfc.co.uk/
Warwick Juniors are always looking for more young people to join a team, and for supporters to help fund and manage their schedule. If you would like to get involved contact the club on-line.
Members were very interested to know about the costs of managing the 20 teams and it is clear that additional funding would be welcome. Thanking Alan for his presentation President Dick Dixon said Rotarians will consider how best they can give them a hand.
