Warwick Young People’s Midsummer Concert
Last Tuesday the 13th Midsummer Young People’s Concert was held in St Mary’s Church, Warwick. Organised by Warwick Rotary club and presented by Warwickshire Music, St Mary’s is an ideal location to make a “Big Noise”! President John Hibben welcomed Warwick Deputy Mayor, Neil Murphy, as the church filled with some 200 children and parents from 8 schools, and the Central Music Theatre Group. This is the final meeting of the Rotary Year, and outgoing President, John Hibben, hands over his chain of office to the incoming President, David Smith. Other officers and committee chairmen take up their roles and, where applicable, will receive their badge of office. The outgoing President will present cheques for the money raised during his year of office to representatives of his nominated charities, which this year were The Stroke Association and Macmillan Cancer Support.

For the first meeting of the new Rotary year, Sarah Ridgeway will talk about the Guy's Cliffe Walled Garden. The Walled Garden was originally part of the kitchen garden for Guy’s Cliffe House from at least the 1770s to the late 1940s. In recent years the garden had become totally overgrown & derelict. South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust is excited that a new midwifery led birthing unit is going to be developed on site at Warwick Hospital. The Trust, that currently offers a Consultant Obstetric Unit at the hospital and community home birthing teams, are expanding their maternity services to offer women more choice on where to deliver their babies. The speaker at this week's meeting will be Michael Jackson of the British Post Polio Fellowship, who will talk about Poliomyelitis, particularly relating to hydrotherapy treatment. The British Post Polio Fellowship is the largest UK Charity dedicated to supporting tens of thousands of people who survived the Polio Epidemics of the first half of the 20th Century.
