“Out of the Blue” President David Brain was delighted to receive an award from the International Federation of Scouting Rotarians for the clubs support to the 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts. It was particularly fitting as in his past President David had been District Commissioner for the Scouts in Warwickshire.
Warwick Rotarians support for the Sea Scouts is long standing. Back in 2014 Rotarian Alan Bailey presented the scouts with a trailer for their camping trips, partly funded by Rotary District 1060 and the club.
Rotarian Laurie Day, who is an architect, spent many years preparing the plans and obtaining planning permission for the scouts new HQ, undertaken free of charge.
Whilst the Sea Scouts went about raising funds and letting contracts for the works, in 2018 Warwick Rotary was able to help with Phase 1 which was the new jetties and boat park, providing £10,000 for the fencing.
President David Brain & Laurie Day met with Viv Bosworth Chair of 2nd Warwick Sea Scouts, Marc Gadsby, Group Scout Leader and Alex & Izzie a couple of Sea Scouts, to have a quick peek at the new HQ, adjacent to the Leisure Centre in St Nicholas Park Warwick, ahead of it’s opening in June.
The scouts are still fundraising to complete the “fit-out” and if you would like to help them you can donate via their website. www.2wk.org
