Jun12 - Charities receive cheques

Three local charities have received donations from the Rotary Club of Warwick at their meeting last Wednesday.

The first donation was for £1,320 for PaYP, Positive about Young People who have a base in Warwick working with young people at risk of anti-social behaviour. 50% was a Rotary District grant and will be used to support a Distance learning package for kids not in school. CEO Parneet Kang is pictured here with President Jackie Crampton, colleague Katherine Golden and Alan Bailey of the Youth Committee.

The other recipients were Jeff Reading of Cancer Research UK, and Aidan Knox manager of the Warwick Citizens Advice Bureau who each received cheques for £1,500.

This was the result of a year’s hard work by the club collecting at stores, the racecourse and in club raffles on behalf of the “Presidents Charities” chosen by outgoing club President Jackie Crampton.

Jackie said “I am thrilled that we have been able to raise £3,000 to share between these charities.  I used to volunteer at CAB which many people do not realise is a charity, cuts to funding means they struggle to help local people with their problems. I was also keen to raise funds for Cancer Research as cancer affects so many of us, and the research is producing amazing results.”
