Warwick Rotarians heard from Leamington man Ben Spann about his campaign, “Change a Life, Put down your Knife” which recently raised funds to install a Bleed Control cabinet in Lower Leamington.
Ben told a club Zoom meeting how he felt moved to do something after friends were affected by knife attacks in Leamington. Ben had avoided jail after being involved in growing cannabis and saw the impact County Lines drug dealing was having locally.
Ben said he wants to work with sports, youth facilities and schools in Warwickshire and Coventry to pass his and others’ first-hand experiences of life in prison and how they “regret the stupid decisions we made in our younger days”. Ben wants to Prevent, Educate and Engage with young people and sees sport as a way of giving them positive activities, discipline and self-worth. Club will keep in touch with Ben and his project.
