Remember, remember the 5th of November, gunpowder, treason, and plots…and Bonfires!
Cllr Christine Cross, Mayor of Warwick, and sponsor Ann Canning from The Tuckery in Warwick, visited Newburgh Primary School on Tuesday to see the Guy made by the children and hear about the Gunpowder Plot.
They were greeted by this splendid Guy together with his barrel of “gunpowder” which had been made by all the children in the reception class, who were excited about seeing the firework show on Saturday. The Tuckery made a generous donation to the school which will help support their activities.
The Guy will be placed on the Warwick Bonfire to be lit by the Mayor on Saturday Nov 5th at 6.30 at Warwick racecourse. Gates open at 5pm and there is plenty to do before the bonfire and firework show starts.
Organisers are expecting a good crowd, there is free parking at the racecourse, and several food outlets with hot food, hot punch and candy floss, as well as a children’s play area.
Tickets can be purchased; in Warwick from Torrys in West Street; the main Post Office; Claridges; Cabin News; Mellors; Warwick vacuum shop; and the Tourist Information Centres in Warwick and Leamington; as well as Woodloes Post Office; and The Coffee Lounge at Chase Meadow. Advance tickets – Adults and children 12 and over – £6; accompanying children under 12 £1; On the gate adults and children 12 and over £7; children under 12 £2; infants 3 and under free so it’s worth buying early.
The event is organised by Warwick Lions and the Rotary Club of Warwick, with all proceeds going to local charities and good causes.
Sponsorship has been provided by Warringtons of Warwick, The Tuckery, Baxi heating, Bovis Homes and Leycester House care home, with pallets for the bonfire provided by Unipart Logistics, with Warwick Racecourse allowing use of the site.
