Warwick Rotary Pancake Race
February 24, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
On Tuesday, February 24th, Warwick Mayor, Moira Ann Grainger, will set off local children in the annual pancake races organised by Rotary Club of Warwick.
Now before you all scream at us – ‘It’s not pancake day’ – can we point out that on February 17th – which is Shrove Tuesday – the children will be on half-term holiday, so rather than disappoint them we have put the races back a week.
Children from local primary schools compete in Warwick Market Square, and previous winners – Infants from Newburgh School, and Juniors from Coten End School, will be keen to hold on their trophies. Teams from 5 schools are anticipated, and this exciting event keeps a tradition alive.
This year the Rotary Club is inviting the “grown –ups” to join in too, if you can find a team of four for £10 they can race at 1.pm for Easter egg prizes.
The children’s races start at 1.30 and will be cheered on by a large turn-out of parents, class mates and spectators. This year’s event is supported by Tesco who are providing the prize eggs and pancakes, the Rose and Crown public house supplying hot pancakes; and Thomas Lloyd in the Market square brewing coffee to keep the crowds warm.
A trophy will be awarded to each winning team and cream eggs given out to the children. Rotary President Jackie Crampton said “this is a nice way to keep a tradition alive”. Warwick Rotarians are out in force to marshall the event and this is one of the events we arrange for the local community.”
